Why is my cat losing her hair symmetrically on legs? Skin is not inflammed and there are no lesions.

My cat is losing hair on her legs and stomach. Symmetrical hair loss. The skin is not inflamed. No lesions. She is eating and drinking. I do know that about a week ago she was drinking more water than usual. But, now she seems to be drinking normally again. She is sleeping almost all the time. I am worried. Her vet changed her diet to z/d (Hills)

Her vet doesn't do skin scrapings. as far as allergy is concerned. I have not noticed fleas but, she does scratch (not where the skin loss is). Does anybody think that an antibiotic may help? The vet did give me prednisone to give her as needed. (pills) .

It sounds like she could be overgrooming, some cats will do that if they're a bit stressed, it's probably not something major that is causing it, just a new piece of furniture or a new cat or moving her favourite chair can do it. Since she has allergies, she may be uncomfortable and licking is her way of soothing herself.

I would recommend getting some comfort zone feliway spray or a plug in, this helps them to feel happy and if it's stress, that should help the situation.

My cat suffers from skin allergies, so my suggestion to you is do try the prednisone, it just may help. Also, my vet said to try some O-Mega 3 vitamins, to treat from the inside out with the scratching....good luck!

May be a mite problem. If the hypoallergenic diet's not helping after a couple of weeks, bring your cat to another reknowned vet for a second opinion.

My cat had skin allergies and he lost most of the hair on his body. He was actually pulling it out by licking himself constantly. Anyway, the vet gave him pregnazone (sp?) and it relieved the problem for a while, but it came back. This happened a number of times, but it didn't relieve the problem completely.

After a year or so, I went to a new vet who didn't think that the steroid was very good for the cat. He hydrated the cat by putting an IV under his skin and putting in about a pint of water. The poor kitty looked like a balloon for about an hour, but the saline solution was eventually absorbed into his skin. This relieved his skin condition and his hair grew back.

After about 8 months, it reappeared, and I had to go through the procedure with him again, and, again, it worked. The cat didn't mind the IV and appreciated the relief. It wasn't very expensive and it was much better for the cat than taking steroids.

I'm not saying your cat has the same problem, but this type of treatment might help your cat also. I hope your kitty feels better.

Is she stressed? Like did you move her food or litter box or change something in your house?? I know my cats even when I get stressed out they do too. Ive seen cats lick all their fur off when something is bothering them. Also, and yes my babies are spoiled, I put ice water out for them and they seem to drink more that way. Good Luck

I have been reading some testimonials from a web site regarding a new cat food for cats that have allergy and itchy skin problems and bald spots. Several of the testimonials say that their cats have had itchy skin, allergies, bald spots, etc for months and even years and have tried everything. But a few weeks after putting the cats on this food, their cats recovered and now seem like totally diffeent cats (they even included pictures of their kitties. You might seriously think about switching your kitty to this cat food. Its called "Natural Balance庐 Venison %26amp; Fresh Green Pea Formula" and is available in pet specialty stores.

Check their website for more info: google "natural balance pet food"

Natural Balance cat and dog food is NOT in th list of recalled petfoods.

I use Natural Balance canned Indoor formula for my cats now - just switched them since the bad pet food scare last Friday.
