you need to take your dog to the vet. there could be many reasons for this. allergies just being one of them. he might have skin mites, skin infection. or it might be his thyroid it can cause hair loss. you need to take your dog and have it seen by a vet.

Are you sure he has allergies? Talk to your Vet to rule out any other causes. Here are some things I do because I have two dogs that have suffered with allergies.

I keep flea prevention products on them regularly. Even one flea biting them can cause a reaction.

I feed them a food which is good for dogs with allergies. Two brands I can think of that are, are Dick Van Patten's Venison and Potato and Nature's Recipe Venison and Rice. These two foods have an alternative meat source which dogs tolerate well that are sensitive, and neither has wheat or toxic preservatives.

I give my dogs supplements for skin and coat. What mine take, I get from my Vet and they are called 3V Skin Caps. They have Omega 3, Vit A, D and E in them.

Also they get a Vitamin supplement called Nutrived.

I watch what I give them for treats. No doggie junk food. No rawhides and pigs ears.

Instead I get the hard quality dog biscuits, Nylabones, Kongs for chewing needs. I give them Pet Botanics Beef and Rice Log (for one dog) and Pet Botanics Lamb Log for the other two.

Some large grocery stores sell "Frosty Paws" Doggie Ice Cream where human ice-cream is sold. No particular nutritional value, just that my dogs go berserk over it they love it so much.

Don't over bathe. Bathe with hypoallergenic shampoo or medicated shampoo as prescribed by your Vet.

One of my dogs used to have to have regular cortisone shots until I found the right nutrition for them.

have you taken the dog to the vet? Benedryl may help, but i don't know if it will make the hair grow back. I once had a dog that was loosing it's hair, it turned out she had a thyroid problem. If you can get your pooch tested for that. Once i got my dog on some pills she was like a new dog all her hair grew back, it was softer and sluffier, it was great

Well like everyone says, take him to the vet. If the wet says he's allergic to something or has sensitive skin ( I've experienced both cases) then you can try baby oil or Avon body oil to sooth him. It also somehow helps the hair grow back, too. Also, try frontline. I have a dog that scratches all it's hair off for a few fleas while the others aren't even affected.
