Why is my Cat is losing hair where his collar is?

Its not tight at all, but now theres a ring around his neck missing hair. I removed the collar completely for right now and he's staying inside. Do you think it just needs to be looser or is it normal?

I'm not exactly sure why this happens, but it does seem to happen to the majority of cats that have been wearing collars for a few years - just one of the reasons I don't really like collars on cats.

As long as the bare skin looks normal (not red or inflamed or weird at all) it shouldn't be a problem. I see a lot of cats who are completely bald right where their collar is. Not exacty attractive, but not a health problem!

sounds like he's allergic to something in the collar.

leave the collar off until the hair grows back ,put the collar back on and if it happens again, then get a different collar or better yet skip it all together

a cats collar should be VERY loose, they are not the type of animals to try and pry off thier collars like a dog will. It was probably catching the hair around the cats neck, and pullin it out. Keep the collar off for a while, then put it back on VERY loosly.

hmmm it might be that hes shedding but you should ask your vet

It's probably hairloss just from the normal rubbing of the collar on the hair. If the collar is a flea collar, I'd say he might be allergic. But otherwise, just remove the collar for now, or only make him wear it in short intervals; like while he's outside. Don't worry; the hair will grow back.

it may need to be looser. you should be able to fit two fingers width under it easily when it is on him, without choking him at all.

or, he could be allergic to the material the collar is made of - get a different sort.

Why is my Cat is losing hair where his collar is?

Its perfectly normal. Thats where most cats lose hair. But just not to hurt her maybe a little looser. If you really think that this is not normal, ask a vet. I have a cat that does that too and my vet said its normal.

Why is my Cat is losing hair where his collar is?

it's called shedding. My old cat used to shed in only one place on his side, the vet said it was normal. Still, you should loosen the collar.

Why is my Cat is losing hair where his collar is?

The collar is rubbing off the fur. The collar should stay off and the cat should stay inside the house. There is no need for the cat to be outside and the dangers out there are too great.

u could of put it a little tight. or try to buy him a new collar because the collar u'r useing now is pulling off the hair. u could also try asking your local pet store.

sounds like an allergic reaction

How much hair is being lost? If it is a little it could just be shedding. Try a different collar and see if it makes a difference. If not take it to the vet.
