Why is my cat losing hair around its ear?

I have a siamese cat and just noticed that on front of her ear, near the opening of the canal, by the eye it looks like the hair is almost gone there. It looks pretty red there also like she has been scratching but she has no claws in her front paws. What could be causing this and what can i do about it? I also have a tabby cat that just got over a eye infection could that have something to do with it? Or could the Tabby be doing something to her ear?

Thanks!

It is possible that the cat has ringworm. Check to see if there are other spots that are balding. Rignworm can be treated with a medicated shampoo you can get from your vet...or with Lamisil or Tinactin cream.

As your other cat had an eye ifection you may want ot check with your vet to see if it is possible that your Siamese picked something up from the other cat.

The tabby could be biting your Siamese.

Cats scratch the top of their heads and ear area with their back claws. Does she still have those?

Sounds like your cat has ear mites. They are microscopic bugs insider your cats ear canal. A dead give away for this is the black or brown matter inside where there'd normally be ear wax. This is from the feces of the mites. A vet will have a simple ear cleaner for this but go to the VET and get it, store bought brands aren't sufficient.

Cats occasionally develop "hot spots". Could be the result of almost anything from a bite to an accidental scratch, to mites, ticks, or fleas. Could be any skin irritation. But the goofy furrys sometimes scratch that spot to the point they are actually irritating it more. A hot spot then happens. Same thing with humans scratching an itch till it is infected or picking at a scab. You can't treat it yourself. Vet time. Doubt the tabby is to blame unless there was a swipe at one time. It wouldn't be on-going however. Scratching is done with hind leg on ear and I've never heard of taking the back claws off a cat in my life, so Siam probably has them? Never declaw a cat's back paws! Front is bad enough. Although, Spook (on my lap as usual) is working her back claws into my leg and making nasty loops in my dress/work pants. Time to evict her and change clothes into my jeans!

It sound like your cat has mites. Take to vet and get medicine or go on-line to Omaha Vaccines and order some meds for it.

ear mites and you can get medicine for that at a pet store way less expensive than the vet

Why is my cat losing hair around its ear?

ear mites, you should treat all the animals in the house and i have faith in the store brands, they always worked for my cats!

Why is my cat losing hair around its ear?

It could be earmites or a flea allergy you can get treatment for ear mites from your vets but you really should get her checked over by a vet before you do decide what you are treating her for, it could be she has an allergy to something and siamese are notorious for sensitive skin it's worth geting a vet to check her and your other cats out..
