Shihtzu losing hair?

i have a shih tzu which i give bath, groom, comb regularly, i had her vaccinated recently, so there are days she cant bathe, then i combed her, and lots of mattes, but i can see that she is losing so much hair that she looks a bit bald now, is a shihtzu a shredder to the point of thinning the hair to baldness, wat shal i do, any advice, and wats happening to her.. any tips how to grow it back or treat her

Take her to the vet. Allergies will cause a dog to lose their hair. It will sometimes also be characterized by redness, and itching. Another possibility could be fleas. If you want to treat her hair loss yourself, I would suggest bathing her in a shampoo called "Dermal Soothe". It will help soothe her skin and should help with the regrowth.

It could also be a thyroid problem or malnutrition, as stated previously.

First advice, take her to the vet. Not sure what could be causing hair loss. I know thyroid problems cause dogs to lose hair (especially) by the tail and make the hair overall very thin. If so, needs a blood test and then medicine for rest of her life but the meds are pretty cheap. Maybe malnourishment (not from you) but she could be having trouble absorbing the nutrients in her food and for that you'd also need to see a vet.

There are several reasons that she could be losing her hair the chief reason for dogs is usually diet however , have you recently changed her dog food or feeding habits , say in the last few months ? usually the hair loss can be traced to a lack of fatty acids in the diet , or to skin conditions like mange which are treated topically with ointments , if you have any doubts take her to a vet, and give him / her all the facts about changes inn diet or excercise , some times pets feel stressed when they have a change in long term habits , just like people do , and if you recently moved , or dont take her for her normal play time any more things like that , then this could be the result .... good luck

is she losing hair in patches or is she just thinning out? if its just patches then she could have a skin parasite like mange. or possibly ringworm, but ringworm would leave a small wound on her skin. If its all over and her skin is red it could be allergies to her food or maybe the shampoo.

I would get her clipped if she's just a pet. Sounds like you may be bathing too often. A trip to the vet is in order then to a groomer. There are lots of cute hairstyles for Shih Tzus. Mine were all guinea pigs back when I took the dog grooming course. Poodle clips, terrier clips, you name it. Good luck!
