I am a female with long hair. For the last year or so, it seems like
I have more hair coming out in my comb than I used to and my hair is getting thin. Any suggestions on why this is happening and
also what I can do about it? Would be appreciated. I have always
had healthy hair. Thanks
Why would a female be losing hair? And what to do?
Hi 1614, there could be a lot of reasons for this problem,ie- stress. age. type of hair care/accessories. medications, if you are or have taken any. thyroid problems, hereditary ect.
The sure way to find out is to see your dermatologist, you and she/he comes up with a plan that works best for you. Good Luck

how old are you? if you are older you are just thinning, this is not normal if you are still younger, so you might want to see a doctor.
it also maybe stress.

One word: HYPOTHYROIDISM....
Go get checked. It happened to me, and I have been taking medicine for 4 months. The hair loss stopped for me after 2-3 months.
It is underactivity or non-activity of the thyroid gland in your neck. There are many reasons it happens, but a common cause is giving birth. Another is if you have had an autoimmune disorder like scleroderma or lupus.....Your body tries to destroy the thyroid gland. Many many other things cause it....
Other symptoms include fatigue, dry dry skin, loss of hearing, weight gain, facial hair, low immunity (Not being able to fight off illnesses), and the telltale sign: Tons of hair falling out at the roots, and very thin brittle hair.
Good luck to you!

Well im not sure how old you are but as woman age we shed more! I am 22 years old with long hair and i lose it too! You have healthy hair so its not breaking! Also make sure you are brushing your hair right! Start from the bottom and carefully work your way up! Dont rip through it etc! If its wet use detangler! And use a wide tooth comb! Do the same start from bottom work your way up! Then before you run a brush through let it dry!
Best of luck!
As for the thinning i agree go see a doctor about this! It could be something and maybe not who knows!

Hypothroidism will cause your hair to fall out as well as dry out. Dry skin, fatigue, weight gain, depression, just to name a few, also are symptoms. There are also medications that will cause hair loss. There are vitamins made for hair that work well that are high in Biotin. I would defifnitely go to the doctor as this could be a sign of something more serious.

If your hair is thinning you need to be checked for hypothyroidism.
It's one of the signs but there is also a hair problem called alopecia and it happens to women just like men (balding).
The only way to find out exactly what it is to see a doctor.
