A 19 year old woman losing her hair?? Help!?

Every time I brush, comb, wash, dry my hair, I lose so much of it, clumps will come out at a time. Hairs fall out like it nobody's business, and it definitely does not seem normal. It is worrying me a lot. I also have a bald spot when I pull my hair back in a ponytail or up at all in any way. It is in the middle of my head, just about my forehead, and people can notice it, including myself. The only way to hide it is wearing long bangs in front that hide it.

I need something that will help restore my hair, and get rid of my embarrassing bald spot. My hair is still thick and curly, but at the top it's losing hair. It is very horrible.

Anything I can to help my hair?? Thanks

Try Rogaine for women. It can help you. Ask your doc about it.

Good luck!

Women's rogaine is available. Go to the Dr. and ask him to prescribe. I know how disheartening it is I have a bald spot myself from gradual loss. If you are losing it fast, see a dr.

I was going to say loosing hair is normal i loose heaps to but not enough to make a bald patch. I think you should go see your doctor as i think you have an underlying health issue.

That happened to me when I was 11. My mom told me to go play some sport, so I tried figure skating, and my hair never fell off again.

GAH!! I know exactly how you feel. I actually have the same hair type...I have thick curly hair. Some of the reasons I think I may be loosing my hair are because: I am on a foreign exchange and have only been here for 2 months, but the stress can do it...I constantly put my hair up, never leave it down, I don't wash my hair completely correctly (working it into my roots).

Or there could always be some medical problem...i know hypo/hyper thyroidism causes hair loss and it is something that people never really check.

hair loss in women is common, so all I can say is that there are medications like Propecia that help maintain the hair you have now and prevents any more hairloss. Also there are hair restoration centers like Bosely that help regain your confidence in restoring your hair. I thought it was a sham, but they are the real deal, check out their website for more info

It may be more serious than anyone can give you advice on but if it is simply losing hair than there could be some hope. I would suggest getting one of those highly concentrated restorative shampoos and conditioners. After using products like that for a while, try using a really good product all the time on your hair. I love Garnier Fructis Length and Strength shampoo and conditioner. I used to see myself losing hair every time that I brushed or washed my hair. Within a week of using Garnier, I noticed a difference. When you use styling products such as hairspray or gel, make sure that they don't contain alcohol. Use something that says vitamin enriched or something like those tea based gels that they say helps your hair grow long.

hair loss and thinning might be linked to predictable factors, as described below. On the other hand, hair loss (including thinning) in the absence of these factors might suggest the need to look for underlying medical conditions that require treatment.

The following factors are generally predicable, easy to pinpoint, and modifiable:

natural, monthly hormonal changes

pregnancy

menopause

hormonal contraception

emotional stress

blood thinners, vitamin A, antidepressants, medicines used to treat gout, chemotherapy, etc.)

Some other underlying medical conditions may include:

over/underactive thyroid glands

lupus

diabetes

fungal infections of the scalp

malnutrition

Androgenetic alopecia - a condition occurring when a derivative of testosterone, called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), binds to hair follicles and shrinks them 閳?Also, have you made any recent changes to her medication-taking routines? What about hormones? What about diet? Would you say she takes in an adequate amount of various and nutritious foods on most days?

Consider seeing a health care provider to schedule an appointment at Primary Care Medical Services.

It could be many reasons. It may be stress or medically related or it may be traction damage from wearing your hair in a certain style (hair pieces, braids, things of that nature).

I can relate to you because I suffer from severe alopecia at 24 years old. From your description, your case does not seem very severe. You are lucky in that you caught it early and can do something about it. My recommendation would be to see a dermatologist that specializes in hair ASAP.

I started to lose hair in my early teens but could not afford to get medical help and now my hair is to a point where I wear wigs ALL the time. I am exploring some medical options now.

Hope this is helpful.
