27 year old female losing hair?

I noticed this week that my hair has been thinning quite a bit....not balding, just thinner and definitely not as full. This morning in the shower I ran my fingers through my hair and several strands were coming out which is definitely not normal for me. I'm not taking any medications or birth control and haven't had a baby recently, so I don't know what this could be? I went to the doctor this morning and told him about it and he's testing out my thyroid. Does any one have any experience with this?

i think you will find your thyroid playing a big part in this good luck

you may email me if you like. Have you noticed a change in your skin or a bit of moodiness too? You may also experience irregular menstrual cycles too. Just make sure you stay on the meds they give you. I got off mine due to financial reasons and got pretty sick. Report It

You should probably see a nutritionist. Also, a dermatologist. It's probably just a vitamin deficiency though.

I do but it was meds that was causing it.

I had a friend who had this problem...started when she was about 23 or so. Hers was a dermatologic problem and she was able to re-grow her hair with Rogaine. Other possible causes could be hormone related or a vitamin deficiency. Have the doctor run the tests, if no luck with the thyroid diagnosis...consider a multi-vitamin and see a dermatologist.

YES

I have been thinning for several years now. For me it has been hormonal (PCOS), but u know, diet is key. I came across some ayurvedic sites (east indian homeopathy) which talk about balancing the bodies systems. Anyhoo, when we drink coffee and have too much yeast from breads, etc. that makes it difficult for nutrients to reach the hair follicles.

My hair has improved by reducing caffiene and other unhealthy food sources. I have a ways to go. Another thing I have done is stopped using regular shampoo and use only organic shampoos. this has helped tremendously.

Hope that helps!

If your body isn't getting enough nutrients, you can lose your hair. Are you underweight or don't eat much? If so, that could be it. You need to eat the right foods and have a balanced diet. Follow the food pyramid and you won't go wrong. If it is something other than diet, then your doctor will hopefully test for it.

Good luck.
