My Min Pin is losing hair... whats wrong with him?

Contrary to other answers, this is NOT normal, unless you have a rare "blue" minpin. Blue minpins are very prone to skin conditions. If your pin is one of the regular colors, you could be dealing with Demodex mange, which inflicts many puppies that are poorly bred or purchased from puppy mills. This condition most definitely needs a visit to the vet for treatment, as it is not curable without medication, and will get worse. If it gets bad enough, secondary bacterial infections will set in, and the condition could become life-threatening.

The common areas of hair loss in Demodex mange are the throat area, the temples in front of the ears, the armpits, the elbow joints, and the insides of the legs. if your dog is losing hair in those places, please visit the vet!

You can go see a vet!

Bald spots aren't a good sign- you should see the vet. It could be a skin condition that needs attention, or a food allergy that needs to be addressed.

That is not the most normal thing.Try seeing the vet and also if you usually see a min pin at the pet store in the mll if they are not having lots of hair on them they usually are nt healthy looking! But a min pin depends on the kind doesnt usually have alot of hair but they could be a short hair min pin!

Very little or no hair in some spots on min pins are very normal. When you say he is losing hair are you actually witnessing the hair falling out or is this something you just noticed? My sister in laws min pin has severe food allergies and he does not have any hair on his back or paws hardly at all when he has an episode.

If this is something that you just happened to notice I would say not to worry. However if you find that this continues or you have actually witnessed the hair falling out over time I would definitely say there is a problem and to see a vet.
