I would bring your cat to a different vet. Just to get a second opinion.

Could be food allergies. My friend has a cat who loses his hair %26amp; he has to eat only certain cat foods. I think taking the cat to a different vet may be a good idea.

Of course the first things you need to check for are ringworm and fleas. My dog, an English Springer, also has a ridge of skin on the top of her nose. The vet gave us some skin cream that really didn't do much for her. Since it wasn't irritated or itchy, I just let it be and she's fine. If you notice the bald spot getting bigger, then he probably has an allergy to something. He could also be rubbing the fur off under his nose from trying to "itch" the spot. Watch him closely to see how he behaves, but definitely have him checked for ringworm.

If the kitty has never been outdoors, it's very unlikely to be mange or ringworm. My first guess would be that kitty has developed an allergy to her current food; your daughter may want to try a lamb and rice based diet, which is usually nonallergenic in cats.

I might also consider that it could be a bacterial infection of the skin. I had a cat once who suffered this; the only treatment that worked was bathing her three times a week with a medicated shampoo from my vet.

I also had a cat once who lost all the fur on his tummy. He was checked for EVERYthing---all tests were negative. We accepted it, and it eventually grew back :)

I agree with the person who said that your daughter needs a second opinion. Much as we want to trust our vets, I've seena a few pretty incompetent ones :(
