Cat's losing hair from his paw?

I noticed today that my 14-year old tabby cat has about a 闄?inch bare patch of skin at the end of one of his paws that must have just formed recently. There's no sign of any infection or wound, just a complete lack of hair at that spot. Is anyone aware of what may be causing this?

the same thing happened to my cat, he was licking it all off.

sometimes cats lose hair because of an unhealthy diet.. try giving it some nutritionally balanced cat food (you can find it at petsmart or the like). it would be best to go to your vet however.

Sorry I'm not sure if there is no cut. A similar thing happened to my cat when she got a cut.

Could be a hot spot where the animal is chewing at the fur, could be the fur was scraped off in an accident (one of my dogs did that in a nose first dive over a pretty steep cliff once) could also be ringworm (check the web for pics and compare if you don't know what this looks like). I'd do some general web searches if it were mine...

If the cat seems irritated by it, take it to the vet.

It could be allergies. Alot of animals do alot of paw licking with certain types of allergies. It also could be ringworm. Ringworm is very common in cats, but it is easy to treat if you are careful. See your vet and have him tested. In the meantime, keep him away from other cats and wash your hands after handling him until you know for sure.

could be hot spots, true. also think about ringworm, allergies, reaction to environmental factors, anxiety...lots of things. definitely see your vet
