If I'm losing hair because I eat little or not protein, will it grow back if i start eating pro

I am vegetarian and i would get max 10-15grms of protein a day and it's been a year like that. Now my hair is falling off and i went to the doctor who told me to buy protein shakes and soy products. Will it make my hair grow back??? Thanks

If I'm losing hair because I eat little or not protein, will it grow back if i start eating protein again?

Why were you eating so little protein? There are so many plant sources of protein so you probably would not the shakes, unless you want them. I do not know if your hair would grow back, you should have asked your doctor when you went and told you it was due to lack of protein, but most likely it would.

Complete proteins inn plant sources include spirulina, quinoa, buckwheat, hempseed, and amaranth, %26amp; soy products such as soybeans, tofu, tempeh, and miso. Other sources of essential protein are nuts %26amp; seeds (almond, cashew, walnuts, sunflower), beans, (black, lentils, lima, pinto), TVP, lentils, peas, nutritional yeast, chickpeas, edamame, soy milks and other milk substitutes, seitan, meat substitutes, pulses, whole grains, brown rice, nut butters (almond, peanut), broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, grapefruit, apples, %26amp; strawberries.

Your body needs protien, but it also needs the other things that come with eating protien, would start taking a vitamin for hair skin and nails. Costco has one that is called just that and it works very well. But consult your doctor before taking anything.

Yes, it should! Protein is great for the hair.

Lack of protein is why a lot of people with eating disorders such as anorexia and bullemia experience hair loss.

Yes, consuming more protein will help your hair fall out.

A few years ago, when I was in high school, I decided to go low-cal/low-fat...but I ended up cutting out almost all protein too. I never meant to be "vegetarian" or anything lol, but it sure seemed like I was for a while.

Much to my horror, my hair started falling out because my body wasn't getting the protein it needed. It was so embarrassing. If a friend hugged me, he/she would get my hair all over them. I remember several friends, on different occasions, would just pick the hairs off my coat and looked astonished at how much I was shedding. I remember the strange looks on their faces as they examined my hairy coat...they were obviously concerned, to say the least. My nails were extremely brittle too.

I obviously realized what the low-protein diet was doing to my body, and increased my daily intake. Now I have glossy hair that sheds at the normal human rate lol...my nails are *better*, although they'll never be great, since this sort of runs in my family.

I definitely suggest you increase your daily protein amount asap, for the sake of your health. I don't want you to get as bad as I did. If you're already losing your hair, your body is already hurting because of your current diet. Fortunately, the damage can be undone, but it could take months and months, depending on how long you've deprived your body of enough protein. It looks like you're on the right track with the protein drinks you mentioned. =)

I wish you the best of health!

If you are only getting 10-15 grams of protein a day then your vegetarian diet isn't very balanced. You don't need protein shakes if you change eating habits. Eg. 1 tin of baked beans is like 18 grams of protein.
